Welcome Home, Inc. is proud to partner with the Columbia Housing Authority and the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital to create a Community for Veterans in Columbia to provide housing and support services for homeless U.S. military Veterans.
The Community for Veterans allows Welcome Home to expand its housing capacity for homeless Veterans from ten to 29 temporary shelter beds. The new facility will also contain a separate corridor for females only, as well as flexible space for families. The current facility only has housing for male Veterans.
In addition to the temporary housing, the community will include a supportive services center for Welcome Home and VA staff. Programming space, a commercial kitchen, dining room, lounge area, computer lab, laundry facilities and a patio also will be part of the community.
Veterans will be able to seek temporary housing and support services at Welcome Home and then transition into permanent housing with supportive services. The community will include 25 one-bedroom apartments at Patriot Place: Apartments for Veterans.
The community will be located at 2112 Business Loop 70 East, a 4.2 acre site that currently includes two motel buildings that will be completely renovated to serve Veterans. Walking trails, gardens and a gazebo also will enhance the site.
Join our community as we work to give our own a place of their own. The project cost to develop the Community for Veterans is $7.9 million. Find out how your support can help today!
